Gratitude: Filling Your Life with Hope

What is Hope? To me, hope is a belief that there is more to life. It’s that tiny little thing that pushes us from just existing to living. It’s being able to live in the present knowing that there is a future to look forward to. But how can hope be gained when it feels like the world is falling apart around us.

There are times when I take good look at where I am in life, what’s happening in the world, and what the future looks like. That outlook can often be disparaging. The world isn’t in great shape right now, our resources are being scooped up and taken away from our children who have yet to understand what they will be living without.

There is only one thing that can help us overcome the burden of disparaging news. That one thing is gratitude. Now, I know what you’re thinking. There’s no way gratitude can solve the world’s problems. But the fact is, the only way the world can change is if we change.

Start making a list. Do it as soon as you are done reading this article. Write down everything you are grateful for and I mean everything. Write at least sixty-three things. I know that seems like a lot. But you have to push yourself to really think about everything you are grateful for.

Take as much time as you need to think of those sixty-three things. Don’t leave anything out. By the time you are done find out if you don’t feel different inside. There is something about taking inventory of your lives that makes you less afraid of what you don’t have and more hopeful that you have a lot to work with.

Bottle that feeling up. Think about those things and see if you can’t use that to lift others. Start looking at the world with eyes of gratitude and you’ll find how blessed you really are. You’ll want to pass those blessings on. When the whole world begins to take care of one another, that’s when our problems will be solved.

Being grateful forces you to look at things in a positive light. If you don’t have hope now, you will. That is what gratitude does. It makes us see our lives for what they are really worth.

Once you’ve begun that cycle, don’t give up. Continue to be grateful. Write down or tell someone three things you are grateful for everyday and watch the blessings in your life pile up. Feel it change your life and make you a more positive person.

People will flock to you. They’ll want to know how you got so happy all the time. Then you can pass this message of gratitude on. Let’s see if we can’t change the world one person at a time.

I know it’s possible. I know, because I have hope for the future and I’m sharing this message now to pass that hope along to you. Never stop believing in yourself and in your future.
